Our weekly SoCal IP Institute meeting on Monday, March 16, 2015, will be a discussion of the jury verdict in the Blurred Lines copyright infringement case. On March 10, 2015, a jury held that Robin Thicke’s hit song titled, “Blurred Lines” infringed Marvin Gaye’s copyrights. The jury awarded $7.4 million to Gaye’s estate. The jury verdict is here. On Monday, we will discuss the case and its holding. This Washington Post article here discussed the case and also included a short audio clip with portions of Thicke’s hit song, as well as Gaye’s hit, “Got to Give it Up.” This article here also provides an interesting summary of the case.

All are invited to join us in our discussion during the SoCal IP Institute meeting on Monday, March 16, 2015, at Noon in our Westlake Village office. This activity is approved for 1 hour of MCLE credit. If you will be joining us, please RSVP to Noelle Smith by 9 am Monday morning.
