For our weekly SoCal IP Institute meeting on Monday, October 19, 2020 we will discuss the following cases:
St. Jude Medical, LLC v. Snyders Heart Valve LLC (CAFC 2020) (Case Here)
Snyders obtained a patent on a heart valve technology and sued St. Jude for patent infringement. St Jude then filed an IPR proceeding at the PTAB and was able to invalidate some of the claims in Snyders’ patent. The Federal Circuit reversed the PTAB’s ruling, finding that Snyders invention was not obvious.
We will also discuss recent changes to Copyright registration procedure. Specifically a new rule makes it easier to register copyrights for blog and literary posts.
We will also discuss a recent report published by the patent office regarding patents and artificial intelligence.
All are invited to attend. Due to the Covid-19 situation the meeting will be conducted via video conference at 1:00pm PT. This activity is approved for 1 hour of MCLE credit. If you will be joining us, please RSVP to Elisha Manzur by 9 am Monday morning to obtain a link to the video conference.
