For our weekly SoCal IP Institute meeting on Monday, Nov. 7, 2016, we will discuss the following:
AMDOCS (ISRAEL) LIMITED v. OPENET TELECOM, INC., OPENET TELECOM LTD. (Fed Cir. Nov. 1, 2016) (available here). In a 61 page opinion, a split federal circuit holds that 4 Amdocs patents were erroneously found ineligible under Alice. Judge Plager authored the opinion and he was joined by Judge Newman and Judge Reyna authored a long dissent. This case follows similar precedent in DDR Holdings, Enfish, Bascom Global and McRO by focusing on a patent claim’s specification as being a consideration when determining patent eligibility versus only the claims.
All are invited to join us on Monday, Nov. 7, 2016, at noon in our Westlake Village office. This activity is approved for 1 hour of MCLE credit. If you will be joining us, please RSVP to Elisha Manzur by 9 am Monday morning.
