Please join us for our weekly SoCal IP Institute meeting on Monday, October 23, 2017.
SoCal IP welcomes Ian Tollett of Williams Powell, an intellectual property firm in the United Kingdom. Mr. Tollett is a British and European Patent Attorney with an interest in the patenting of chemical polymers, agrochemicals and medical devices as well as trademarks and internet law. He will give a presentation on current developments in European patent and trademark law.
We will also discuss the case Secured Mail v. Universal Wilde, (CAFC October 16, 2017) (available here). Plaintiff sued defendant for infringing several patents directed towards organizing mail. The CAFC affirmed a decision dismissing the case under R.12(b)(6) for failure to state a claim upon which relief can be granted. The district court found all claims invalid under 35 U.S.C. 101 because they were directed towards an abstract idea.
All are invited to join us on October 23, 2017, at noon in our Westlake Village office. This activity is approved for 1 hour of MCLE credit. If you will be joining us, please RSVP to Elisha Manzur by 9 am Monday morning.
